Jazz Improvisation Ensemble for Teens. This ongoing weekly course offers a path for students to enter the world of Jazz and improvisation.
In a welcoming, safe, highly professional and non-judgmental environment, students will be encouraged to play and improvise. This course is designed for students who are eager to learn the basics of playing Jazz Standards, theory, and improvisation techniques. The primary focus of this course is group playing and exploring jazz language through improvisation. With the use of a wide range of Jazz Standards, students will dig deep into a select few tunes each semester, employing various techniques and styles that will be discussed in class. This will include how to improve your melody playing, navigating common jazz chord changes, and becoming comfortable with common jazz forms (i.e. AABA). At the end of each semester, students will have the opportunity to showcase their materials for an audience of family and friends. We are very excited to announce this brand new program and look forward to your enrollment!
All materials are in tune with admission requirements as stated by LaGuardia Community College, the Frank Sinatra Highschool, Aaron Copland School of Music /Queens College and similar programs.
