Jazz Improvisation beyond the 60’s. This ongoing weekly course takes the Teens to the next level, into longer form, through Composed and Arranged compositions. In this level basic understanding of the languange of Jazz Improvisation is required. The student needs to be comfortable with basic chord progressions, now a minimum of 10 jazz standards, and be familiar with the 7 modes in Major.

Longer harmonic sentences will be explored and there will be an introduction into super impositions. Rhythmic principles such as groupings, syncopation and simple and compound meter will be addressed and students will be exposed to specific exercises to further develop their skills to the next level.

Twice per year participants will have the opportunity to perform a showcase at Smalls jazz club or another jazz venue around town.
